Big jets. Relentless wind. Frozen hands. We worked through long nights, out on a distant runway waiting for them to come with engines roaring, wings caked with ice. Overspray from the deicing liquid raining down. My cameras sealed in waterproof housings just to survive. Then they were gone again, headed into the dark, carrying lives to places we’d never see. We waited again in silence and the wind.
